EDINBURGH, Ind. -- Multiple animals were lost in a fire at an Edinburgh residence this week.
Firefighters with the Edinburgh Fire Department were dispatched shortly after midnight on May 29 to an active garage fire in the 500 block of Sunset Drive. EFD said officers with the Edinburgh Police Department also responded to the scene within one minute of receiving the call.
While all occupants of the residence safely exited the residence as the fire developed, EFD confirmed that several animals were stuck inside and could not be recovered in time. The fire crews on the scene witnessed heavy fire emerging from the home's attached garage in addition to fire damage being spotted at a home next to the initial address.
Although the fire was brought under control a short time later, the animals were "lost in the fire" while a male resident was brought to an area hospital for treatment of minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
EFD did confirm what type of animals died in the fire or the total number of animals that perished as of the date this article was published.
