FISHERS, Ind. - Orange cones are still up on the north side as construction continues on a roundabout at 96th and Allisonville Rd., which is now affecting a local nearby business.

The City of Fishers began the project in early April, closing down a long stretch of 96th St. for months.

Colin Murphy is a regular at A2Z Café and comes in about once a week for the Hawaiian cuisine.

Fortunately for him, he lives on the same side of the street as the café and has no problems getting there.

“My dad lives east off 96th St. and I don't even bother going that way,” said Murphy. “It's a nightmare."

The detour is to take Allisonville Rd. up to 116th St. and then down Hazel Dell Parkway to get around the closure on 96th St.

"I live four miles away, and what should take me seven minutes takes me 45,” said owner of A2Z Café, Tom Rosenow.

Rosenow said it's a hassle for him to get to work everyday, so he doesn't blame his customers for not wanting to deal with it either.

“We've definitely noticed a decrease in customer business overall,” he said. “It's probably anywhere between 23-27% over a day to day basis.”

The restaurant has been open for 10 years and were able to survive through the pandemic, but are concerned with the construction.

They recently shared on Facebook that they're having to cut hours and menu items because business is so slow.

"The staff’s awesome, the food’s always good, everything's consistent, so I hope it hasn't affected them, but I'm guessing it probably has,” said Murphy.

Rosenow encourages people to continue to support their business and others along 96th St. while the construction is ongoing.

The roundabout is expected to be complete by the end of the year. To find more information on the project, click here.
