More severe storms Sunday night across central Indiana

After morning/early afternoon storms prompted the Indy 500 to be delayed, the race started at 4:44 p.m. following several spots receiving a quick burst of rain. A few spots received closer to an inch of rain! As of this writing, the scheduled "break" between rounds of rain will soon be over as we head into the evening.

Storms out near St. Louis and south-central Illinois are moving toward Central Indiana. A severe t-storm WATCH is in effect for the shaded counties below until Midnight.

During the break, our atmosphere (as forecast) recovered quickly with rising temperatures, dew points (humidity levels) and abundant sunshine. All of those serving as fuel for the second round of storms tonight.

All modes of severe weather are possible but damaging winds and hail are elevated threats. The timing for this looks to be anytime after 8-9 p.m. and continuing into the evening before gradually getting out of here overnight. See the imagery below.

Spots south of Indianapolis have a slightly higher risk for severe weather, per the Storm Prediction Center. However, that does not mean spots north are out of the woods. Everyone should remain weather-aware this evening, especially heading home from spots like the Indianapolis Motor Speedway once the race finishes.

Once we get through the overnight hours, a cold front will pass and drop our humidity levels. This will also end the storm chances and set the stage for a nice week. Minus a stray shower near sunrise on Memorial Day, skies will quickly clear and sunny skies will dominate through Friday.

It'll get a touch cooler, too at night with a few nights getting into the 40s for overnight lows.
