KOKOMO, Ind. — A woman from Minnesota was hit and killed by a driver Wednesday while crossing US 931 in Kokomo.
Dawn Marie Teague, a 38-year-old woman from Little Falls, Minn., was walking last night on the west side of US 931 just south of Lincoln Road when the driver of an SUV reportedly struck her. Howard County EMS crews pronounced Teague dead on the scene.
According to the Kokomo Police Department, officers were responding to another crash around 10:15 p.m. just north of US 931 and Lincoln Road when they were told that a nearby pedestrian had been hit. KPD said officers rushed to the intersection and found a woman lying in the road.
A preliminary investigation into the crash showed that Teague was crossing US 931 in an unknown direction and was last seen on her phone and walking the east side of the road prior to the crash. She was then hit by the driver of a 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe and died from her injuries.
According to KPD, the driver of the SUV stayed on scene and spoke with officers. The driver was also given a blood draw to ensure drugs and alcohol weren't a factor.
The crash investigation, which is being run by Kokomo police and the Howard County Coroner's Office, is ongoing. Anyone with information on the crash is being asked to call KPD Officer Michael Riley at (765) 456-7600 ext. #8436. No other information was provided.
