INDIANAPOLIS — A man was killed and two other people were injured in an incident on the east side of Indianapolis Monday night.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of East 12th Street on a report of shots fired around 10 p.m. Monday. When police arrived at the scene, they located three victims with injuries; investigators initially said all three suffered what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
IMPD reported that its officers found one of the victims, an adult male, in "very critical condition." The man was transported to a local hospital and later died.
The Marion County Coroner's Office identified him Tuesday as 19-year-old Jaden Omarion Thrasher.
One of the victims was a 1-year-old baby, per IMPD. The infant was transported to Riley Hospital for Children with what initially appeared to be graze wounds.
IMPD later said, after an examination at the hospital, that the infant had not been shot. Police said the infant suffered "minor scrapes" during the incident.
Police characterized the third victim as a female "teenager or young adult." She is in stable condition, according to IMPD. Police clarified Tuesday morning that the female victim was 19 years old.
Law enforcement recovered shell casings at the scene. Police believe the incident unfolded outside. IMPD reported that they found Thrasher critically injured outside a vehicle.
Officers do not believe the incident poses an ongoing threat to the community. IMPD reported that the shooting was likely a "targeted event."
