FISHERS, Ind. — Fishers police used a heat-seeking drone over the weekend to find an assault suspect who hid in a field after a 100 mph chase and subsequent OWI crash.
Edgar Gomez-Guadarrama, a 28-year-old Fishers man, was arrested by FPD officers Sunday after a vehicle pursuit along State Road 37. He has been charged with driving while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement.
FPD said officers were told around 10:20 p.m. that authorities were searching for a suspect involved in a recent incident in Elwood. The suspect reportedly broke into a woman's home, "strangled her in front of a child" and stole a firearm.
Soon after, a Fishers officer saw a car matching the suspect vehicle description driving on SR-37 and began to follow. After a license plate search, dispatch confirmed that the car was the same one driven by the suspect in the Elwood case.
Officers tried to pull the car over, but the driver reportedly ran a red light at 131st and Parkside Drive and did not stop the car. According to FPD, the car crossed into oncoming traffic several times and reached speeds over 100 mph before crashing at 126th and Parkside Drive.

The driver, who was later identified by police as Gomez-Guadarrama, reportedly got out of the car and fled on foot into a nearby field.
FPD said officers then deployed a drone to obtain a heat signature and help find the suspect, who eventually walked out of the field and was arrested.
Footage of the drone tracking Gomez-Guadarrama, provided by FPD, can be seen below:
According to police, Gomez-Guadarrama appeared to be intoxicated and submitted a field breath test. He now faces four charges related to the chase and crash, including felony resisting law enforcement and two OWI charges.
An initial hearing in Gomez-Guadarrama's case was scheduled for Monday in Hamilton County Court but has since been delayed until 1:15 p.m. on May 28.
According to FPD, Elwood Police have indicated that they are also seeking a warrant for charges related to the strangulation incident. No other information was immediately provided.
