INDIANAPOLIS — A person was critically injured during a shooting on the near northwest side of Indianapolis on Sunday evening.

During a media briefing, an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson indicated officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Gent Street at approximately 7:26 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, they found an adult lying in the street with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

The individual was transported from the scene to a local hospital in critical condition.

IMPD reported that it is still trying to determine what led to the shooting. Police have not identified any suspects yet.

"Conflict resolution, we've been talking about that for quite some time," IMPD Lt. Vincent Stewart said at the scene. "Not picking up a handgun to resolve conflict; definitely a nice day, kids are out. It's a shame, it's disappointing, we expect better. Unfortunately, these are the times that we are in. But these are the times also that you need to look out for your neighbor."

IMPD encourages those with additional information on the incident to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477.
