INDIANAPOLIS -- Senator and Indiana Gubernatorial candidate Mike Braun will not be participating in a GOP gubernatorial debate on Tuesday evening, meaning only five of the six candidates will be involved in the last debate before next month's primary election.

According to a release from the Indiana Debate Commission, U.S. Senator Mike Braun (R-Ind.) pulled out of the Indiana Debate Commission's 2024 debate Monday night because the senator will be in Washington D.C. to take part in a vote. The release did not specify which measure the senator will be voting on.

The commission added that there was still a possibility that Braun could return in time to participate in the debate if the voting finished on time, which is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in the nation's capital. Tuesday's event marks the final debate before the primary vote on May 7.

Plans are still in place for former Secretary of Commerce Brad Chambers, Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, former Indiana Economic Development Corp. leader Eric Doden, former Attorney General Curtis Hill and Jamie Reitenour to participate in the debate.

Jon Schwantes, host of PBS’s “Indiana Lawmakers,” will moderate the debate. The event is set to begin at 7 p.m. and is expected to last until 8:30 p.m. at IUPUI's Hine Hall Auditorium.
