INDIANAPOLIS — Indy metro police seized multiple firearms and several pounds of drugs after officers reportedly entered a west side apartment and found individuals attempting to flush evidence down a toilet.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, 20-year-old DeJuan Taylor and 20-year-old Ghakel Weathers were arrested as a result of this operation by the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force which was conducted on May 6 at Riverchase Apartment Homes on River Walk Drive.
IMPD said investigators were conducting an investigation at this apartment complex when they spotted Taylor and Weathers leave the apartments with a firearm tucked into their waistbands. Officers knew both men were prohibited from possessing or carrying firearms due to past convictions.
Weathers reportedly went back inside the apartment while Taylor climbed into a vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop on Taylor and reported finding two firearms.
Meanwhile, detectives ended up entering the Riverchase apartments after obtaining a search warrant. Police not only found Weathers inside one of the units but claimed individuals inside the apartment were attempting to flush evidence.
IMPD said three firearms were found in the apartment including a machine gun conversion device. Also reportedly seized from the apartment were multiple pounds of marijuana, 80 grams of meth and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Taylor faces charges for unlawfully carrying a firearm while Weathers faces drug dealing charges in addition to possession of a machine gun.
Two others inside the apartment were also arrested on a preliminary charge of visiting a common nuisance.
Weathers previously was convicted in a shots fired investigation from 2023 while Taylor was charged with murder at 16 years old until later being acquitted of the charge.
