INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis woman is accused of sticking a gun out of a Lyft driver's window and firing shots into the air to frighten and scatter a group of children.

When the Lyft driver attempted to call 911, the woman turned the gun on the driver and held the weapon against the driver's stomach.

"Leave or I'm going to just kill you right there," she supposedly threatened the driver.

Keirra Garrett, 37, is charged with criminal confinement, a Level 3 felony; intimidation, a Level 5 felony; criminal recklessness, a Level 6 felony, and pointing a firearm, a Level 6 felony.

According to court documents, the Lyft driver called 911 on Saturday evening and told dispatchers she had been kidnapped at gunpoint and held against her will.

The driver was no longer being held by Garrett when she called police, having driven Garrett at gunpoint to the 85Twenty Apartments where Garrett finally let the driver go.

The Lyft driver told police that she picked up Garrett and Garrett's daughter in the area of Lyndhurst Drive and Kentucky Avenue. She began to drive the mother and daughter to 85Twenty Apartments on Shadow Ridge Lane but was told to stop by some basketball courts at an apartment complex to pick up Garrett's teenage son.

It was here that Garrett is accused of rolling down her window and firing a gun into the air, sending a group of children running and screaming, according to the Lyft driver.

Garrett reportedly said, "They aren't going to mess with him that way, that's my son."

Garrett then noticed the Lyft driver attempting to call 911 and allegedly pointed the gun at the driver's stomach and threatened her to drive or be shot.

The Lyft driver told investigators that she drove Garrett to 85Twenty Apartments on the city's southeast side while being held at gunpoint.

After arriving, Garrett allegedly began to hit a Dodge Charger in the parking lot with the firearm.

The Lyft driver told police she then drove to a Tractor Supply on Atlantis Drive to call police. The first time she called 911 the dispatchers reportedly put her on hold and hung up. A second attempt made 45 minutes later ended with police being dispatched to her location.

Police ended up locating a pistol holster left in the Lyft driver's vehicle. Investigators also found a run for shots fired near Lynhurst Apartments around the time the driver said Garrett fired out the car window.

Police ended up finding Garrett at Shadow Ridge Lane. Officers noted how she matched the driver's description including walking with a limp.

After acquiring a search warrant, officers went into Garrett's apartment where a black gun with a purple slide was located. The same description the Lyft driver gave to police when describing the gun allegedly used by Garrett.

While arresting Garrett, officers claim Garrett threatened the Lyft driver by saying that she knew where the driver lived and would find her.

If convicted, Garrett could face between three and 16 years in prison on her most serious charge.

"Safety is fundamental to Lyft, and the behavior described is reprehensible and has no place in the Lyft community or society. We have permanently removed the rider from the Lyft community, contacted the driver to offer support, and stand ready to assist law enforcement with any investigation."
