WESTFIELD, Ind. — A person is dead following a Thursday morning house fire in Westfield.
Westfield Fire crews were called around 8:30 a.m. to a residence fire on E. Pine Ridge Drive. The initial call was for smoke coming out of the home's garage, but while crews were en route it was upgraded to a fire with entrapment.
"Upon arrival, crews simultaneously made an aggressive fire attack and searched for the victim," Westfield officials said. "The victim was quickly found, removed from the residence and was immediately determined to be deceased."
WFD did not immediately identify the victim or give a cause for the fire. The department did say crews were assisted by Westfield Police, the county coroner and fire crews from Noblesville and Carmel.
"The fire remains under investigation and no further information will be released at this time," WFD said.
