BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — An explosion occurred at the Stone Belt Shrine Club's in Bloomington on Monday afternoon, leading to one individual being injured.
Fire crews were dispatched to Thompson Ridge Rd. around noon on Monday on a report of an explosion at a structure. Upon arrival to the scene, firefighters from the Monroe Fire Protection District found several windows blown out and major structural damage.
According to the Stone Belt Shrine Club, the explosion was caused by a presumed gas leak, and did significant damage. One individual was in the building at the time, and sustained minor injuries.
The center will be shut down until renovations can be completed, which is expected to take well into 2025 to complete. The facility will host an open house when changes are complete.
