INDIANAPOLIS — A police officer was injured after a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended in a crash and four juveniles being detained on the city's near north side.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the incident began as a report of shots fired on Riverside Drive near the intersection of 30th Street. Police ended up spotting the suspect vehicle and discovering it was a vehicle stolen during an armed carjacking earlier in the day.
A police pursuit occurred with SWAT officers assisting in trying to stop the fleeing sedan. Police said the pursuit ended in a crash at E. 30th Street and E. Fall Creek Parkway N. Drive.
According to IMPD, a SWAT vehicle attempting to stop the fleeing sedan tipped onto its side during the crash. The stolen sedan ended up wrapped around a pole.
Police said four suspects were inside the stolen vehicle at the time of the crash. Two males attempted to flee but were captured by police. Two females were also taken into custody.
According to a police report obtained by FOX59/CBS4, three 15-year-olds and one 14-year-old were taken into custody following Tuesday afternoon's pursuit and crash.
IMPD said the SWAT officer injured in the crash was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A firearm was reportedly located and seized by police at the scene of the crash.
