BOONE COUNTY, Ind. — Three teens stole guns and a PlayStation 5 from a Boone County home last week.
According to an affidavit for probable cause filed on Dec. 3, Boone County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home on Baseline Road to take a burglary report on Dec. 1. When deputies arrived at the scene, victims told them a pump-action shotgun, AR-15 style rife, .22 caliber rifle and PS5 had been taken from the home.
The victims also identified two suspects — both of which were juveniles — who they believed took the firearms and gaming console. The victims also told police they thought the juveniles frequently used a green Honda Civic.
One of the victims showed police Snapchat messages they had exchanged with one of the suspects. The suspect threatened to physically harm the victim after the victim accused the suspect of stealing the guns and PS5.
Another victim, who was home at the time of the burglary, said she saw the suspects exit the residence with "long objects" that were covered by a blanket.
BCSO investigators utilized Flock technology to see if the green Honda the victims had described was in the area the day the burglary. Flock cameras caught the vehicle and three suspects near the scene of the shooting the day the alleged crime happened.
Soon after they interviewed the victims of the alleged burglary, Boone County Sheriff's deputies notified the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office about the incident. Upon contacting MCSO, Boone County investigators learned one of the juvenile suspects had been reported missing in Montgomery County.
Eventually, police visited another home one of the juvenile suspects was know to live at. At the home, deputies were met by 19-year-old Kylin White, who told law enforcement he had returned the stolen PS5 to the victims. White, however, told police he did not know anything about the stolen firearms.
The day after the alleged burglary happened, Boone County Sheriff's Deputies were called to North Montgomery High School. At the school, deputies located the two juvenile suspects and detained them with assistance from one of the district's school resource officers.
The juveniles were transported to the Lebanon Police Department for questioning. Law enforcement also seized the suspects' green Honda Civic.
During an interview with police, one of the juvenile suspects said he had not left his house the day of the burglary. When deputies confronted the juvenile about the green Honda being spotted in the area on the day of the alleged burglary, the juvenile said he had been to the home in question over the weekend.
According to court records, the juvenile claimed he had previously visited the home to retrieve property that belonged to him. The juvenile said police had helped him retrieve his property from the home before.
Police attempted to question the second juvenile suspect. In accordance with Indiana law, the deputies tried to give the juvenile and his mother a private moment to discuss whether or not he should speak with investigators.
The juvenile's mother, however, told deputies she did not want to be left alone with her son because she thought he might harm her. After the mother made her request, the juvenile told police he did not want to speak with them.
After the interviews ended, deputies concluded that the juvenile suspects and White had stolen firearms from the residence on Baseline Road on Dec. 1.
The juveniles were transported to a juvenile detention facility in Delaware County after their interviews. Law enforcement located White at a gas station in Waynetown, arrested him and transported him to the Boone County Jail.
During a subsequent interview with police, White said he and the juvenile suspects went to the home on Baseline Road on Dec. 1 with specific intent to steal the guns. White then told deputies he and the juveniles stole the three firearms in question.
White also admitted that he and the juveniles stole the PS5, though they didn't plan to take the console prior to their arrival at the home.
White told police he helped one of the juveniles load the stolen items into the back of the green Honda. Additionally, White said one of the juvenile suspects did not exit the car during the alleged burglary.
Court documents indicate White and the two juveniles went to Crawfordsville after stealing the guns. They then traded the guns with a man who offered them money or narcotics.
Indiana's public court reporting system indicates White has been formally charged with one count of burglary of a dwelling, three counts of theft of a firearm and one count of misdemeanor theft.
Officials redacted the juvenile suspects' names from the documents they provided FOX59 and CBS4. It is currently unknown if the juveniles will be charged as adults, named publicly or tried in juvenile court.
A jury trial has been scheduled for March 17 in White's case. He is due to appear before Judge Matthew C. Kincaid at 8:30 a.m.
