MUNCIE, Ind. - A Muncie woman and her six foster kids are still processing a scary night after an attempted armed robbery happened inside their home.

“The kids are all in the living room watching TV and they come in and start yelling, ‘Get on the ground,’ and they're cussing at the kids and have their guns pointed at them,” Joye Huckelby, the victim’s daughter, said.

Joye first took to Facebook to share the news. She said her mom was home taking care of her six foster children when all of a sudden three men in ski masks came into the home pointing guns at them.

“They had three guns and six kids. If someone started shooting, it could've been a lot worse than what it already was,” she said.

Luckily, nobody was hurt and nothing was taken at this home but the family is still very shaken up about what happened.

“One pointed a gun at me and then one said the “SH” word 'cause I think he said, ‘This is the wrong house,'" Ransom, one of the 7-year-old boys, said. “[The other boys] scared them off with their water guns.”

But Joye said the same can't be said for the next-door neighbors.

“From what we are told, at that apartment [next door], the people over there got hurt and had to be treated by the ambulance and they also got $500 from them,” she said. “I don't know if over here the kids kinda ran them off from screaming and freaking out…I just have no clue but I am just glad it was as quick as it was.”

Muncie police told FOX59/CBS4 they are currently investigating this as an attempted armed robbery. This is still an active investigation, so they could not provide us with further details.

Officials with the city of Muncie said this kind of thing is not that common here but it can still happen so it is always important to take extra precautions.

“It’s unfortunate whether it's happening here or any other community but as far as the city of Muncie’s standpoint, I have complete faith in our police department,” said Amber Greene, the director of communications with the City of Muncie. “Our city has complete faith in our police department. We know that they are doing their job and they are doing their job well.”

One of the most important things homeowners can do is always lock their doors and windows too. And if possible, install a security system.

“They just walked right in,” Joye said. “Of course, that was the first thing I said to her [my mom], 'Your door should always be locked. There is no reason your door shouldn't be locked at any point in time.' We make mistakes. It happens…. Definitely cameras, doors locked, and take all the precautions you can.”

Anyone who sees or hears something suspicious like this happening in their neighborhood should contact police immediately.
