MOORESVILLE, Ind. -- An Indianapolis man was arrested after a pursuit in Morgan County on Tuesday.

According to a news release from the Indiana State Police, 38-year-old Christopher Whitis faces several charges after the pursuit, including:

  • Criminal confinement where a vehicle is used, a Level 5 felony
  • Resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony
  • Multiple misdemeanors including reckless driving, battery and false identity statement.

A trooper with the Indiana State Police made a traffic stop on a 2003 Ford F350 wrecker on SR67 between Martinsville and Mooresville on Tuesday afternoon. The trooper stated that the driver, later identified as Whitis, was reportedly unlicensed.

When the trooper returned to his vehicle, Whitis reportedly fled from the traffic stop, eventually traveling northbound on SR67 and exceeding 90 mph. During the pursuit, the release said that Whitis reportedly attempted to slow down and strike the trooper's vehicle.

Officials with the Mooresville Police Department attempted to deploy stop sticks as the pursuit continued. The release said that Whitis' vehicle struck the stop sticks at two locations but continued "despite tire disintegration." The vehicle nearly struck a local restaurant and eventually came to a stop in the grass in front of a nearby business.

The release said that Whitis was then arrested and transported to the Morgan County Jail.
