BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Welcome to the Cig Ten!

Indiana University football's Curt Cignetti has been named the Big Ten Coach of the Year. The winner of the 2024 Hayes-Schembechler Big Ten & Dave McClain Coach of the Year is Cignetti, IU announced Tuesday.

The honor comes after Cignetti led the Hoosiers to an 11-1 record in his first year taking over the program. Indiana went 8-1 in conference play this season, losing only to Ohio State.

This season was historic for IU in many ways. The 11-1 record for the Hoosiers is the best in program history and the team's 10-0 start was the best ever for an IU football team.

Cignetti, who came to Indiana after coaching at James Madison for five seasons, was recently given an 8-year contract extension by the university. The contract will run through 2032 and pays Cignetti an annual average salary of $8 million plus a $1 million yearly retention bonus.

“I love Bloomington and am grateful for how the IU community has embraced us,” Cignetti said in the athletic department’s statement announcing the new contract. “I look forward to leading this outstanding program and doing my part to continue the momentum for Hoosier football.”
