INDIANAPOLIS (WXIN/WTTV) — Purdue University has fired head football coach Ryan Walters, according to multiple reports.

The change occurred following a 1-11 season. Most recently, the Boilermakers fell 66-0 to the Indiana University Hoosiers in the Old Oaken Bucket Game on Saturday.

Walters' record with Purdue was 5-19 after a two-year tenure.

"As college athletics enters an entirely new era in 2025, it’s a pivotal time for Purdue, and we must take the steps necessary to best position our football program for success," said Mike Bobinski, Executive Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Purdue. "We are determined to provide the university and our incredibly loyal fans football performance that reflects the excellence of Purdue and is worthy of their continued support."

Bobinski called the firing "a truly difficult decision" and thanked Walters for his commitment both to Purdue and to its student-athletes. He later announced that a national search has begun to select new leadership for Purdue's football team.
