WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A man and an animal were found dead after a fire at a West Lafayette home on Tuesday morning.
According to a news release from the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a house fire on the 100 block of Blueberry Lane in West Lafayette at around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The caller told officials that there was smoke visible from the inside of the home and there was no response to repeated knocks on the door.
When deputies arrived at the home, they located an unlocked door at the back of the house. When deputies entered the home, they located a dead animal in the entry way and noticed that the inside of the home was filled with smoke.
"The deputy was unable to progress further into the residence and verbal instructions were attempted to locate anyone inside," the release said. "The deputy received no response and waited for fire personnel to arrive."
As the fire was being put out, an adult man was located inside the home. The man, who was not identified by the sheriff's office, was pronounced dead.
The investigation into this fire is ongoing with assistance from the Indiana State Fire Marshall's Office and the Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office.
