INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis metro police are investigating after one person was killed and another was injured in a shooting at an assisted living facility on the city's east side Monday night.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched around 7:19 p.m. to 1301 N. Ritter Avenue, the listed address for Rosewalk at Lutherwoods, in response to an incomplete 911 call. While officers were en route, IMPD said the run was upgraded to a person shot.
IMPD said officers arrived on the scene and found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Methodist Hospital in "very" critical condition where he later died, according to IMPD.
Preliminary information indicates a female employee at the assisted living facility let her boyfriend inside before the incident. IMPD said the boyfriend reportedly became involved in some type of disturbance with an employee in the back of the facility's kitchen.
Police said this incident then escalated to the point where shots were fired.
The other person police believe was involved in the incident reported they were shot and have been transported to Eskenazi Hospital in stable condition, IMPD said.
IMPD confirmed that the shooting appeared to be targeted and that there was no active threat to the public at this time.
IMPD said Rosewalk at Lutherwoods is cooperating with the investigation as detectives will work to obtain surveillance footage from inside the business and speak to witnesses to gather more information.
Monday's deadly shooting remains under investigation.
