KOKOMO, Ind. — The Kokomo Police Department is searching for a person of interest who may have been involved in a shooting Sunday morning.
According to KPD, officers were called to the 600 block of Southlea Drive to investigate a shooting around 7:40 a.m. Upon arrival at the location, police found a victim who had been shot. The victim was transported to an area hospital and is currently in serious condition.
KPD reported that its officers are actively searching for a person of interest who may have been involved in the shooting. Police identified the person of interest as Lucio Contreras.

Contreras may be driving a silver Chevrolet Malibu with a broken taillight, per KPD. He may also be armed and headed to the area of Gary, Indiana.
Police are asking those with information on the shooting to call (765) 456-7017. Alternatively, KPD indicated tips can be texted to 847411 by typing "TIPKPD," then a space, then the tip.
