INDIANAPOLIS — A car crashed into an elementary school on the south side of Indianapolis Sunday morning.

It happened just before 1:30 a.m. at Winchester Village Elementary School, which is located at 1900 East Stop 12 Road.

Crews were dispatched to the area for a possible structure collapse. No injuries were reported, according to police.

Officials said a car with two people inside it was heading down a hill when it crashed into the school.

Investigators believe distracted driving may have played a role in the crash. Officials, however, do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

In a Facebook post, Winchester Village Elementary reported that the northeast corner of the building that was struck does not house any instructional spaces or other areas students use. Perry Township Police, a restoration crew and building maintenance worked through the early morning hours on Sunday to secure the building and clean up the damage.

Winchester Village Elementary reported that classes will be held as normal on Monday.

The incident remains under investigation.
