INDIANAPOLIS — Police found a person dead while responding to a disturbance on the southwest side of Indianapolis Friday.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 7100 block of Vega Way just before 1:15 p.m. on a report of a disturbance. When police arrived at the scene, they located an unresponsive adult male.
IMPD indicated that medics arrived at the scene to assist law enforcement and employ life-saving measures. The man was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
After a preliminary investigation, police believe the disturbance started when multiple individuals who knew each other became involved in a verbal altercation. That altercation then turned physical.
IMPD could not confirm why the disturbance became physical or what happened when it did. Police are still trying to determine whether or not a weapon was used during the incident. As of this article's publication, police do not believe a firearm was used against the victim.
One person was detained during IMPD's investigation. That individual was released by police after they consulted with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.
IMPD reported that all parties involved in the incident are accounted for. Police do not believe the altercation poses any ongoing threat to the public.
The Marion County Coroner's Office will release the name of the decedent after his family has been properly notified of his death.
