McCORDSVILLE, Ind. — An Indy woman has been charged with several felonies after police say she stabbed a pregnant woman in the back and punched her in the face while high on cocaine.

Asha Marie Abdou, a 40-year-old Indianapolis resident, was arrested last month after McCordsville police responded to a stabbing incident at a local apartment complex.

Court documents show that officers were called around 2 a.m. on April 30 to an apartment on West Fox Chase Lane for an intoxicated suspect. The caller, a pregnant woman, said that Abdou was attacking and charging at her after getting drunk and high on cocaine.

Officers arrived and spoke with the victim, who said she had been hanging out with Abdou in the living area when the suspect became "very paranoid" and began repetitively asking what was on the victim's dinner plate.

The victim described how Abdou then got in her face and started yelling. When the victim tried to get away from Abdou, the suspect allegedly blocked her from leaving and started swinging at the pregnant woman's face. Police noted that the victim had cuts on her left eye.

After this, the victim said she ran to the kitchen to grab her phone to call 911 before running to the bathroom for safety. However, Abdou reportedly chased the victim and caused her to drop the phone in the hallway.

However, court docs show that the call to 911 had already gone through and that dispatch heard the victim yell for police. The victim soon opened the bathroom door to try and grab her phone when Abdou reportedly stabbed her in the back with a long knife from the kitchen.

"She stabbed me. She stabbed me in the back," 911 dispatch heard the victim yell.

Police noted in their report that officers saw a laceration on the small of the victim's back near her spine. She was treated on scene but did not need further medical assistance, police said.

Officers asked how the victim was eventually able to get away from Abdou and she said she threatened to light a towel on fire in the bathroom if the suspect didn't stop. Still, the victim said that even while she was threatening to light the towel Abdou was still swinging the knife.

"She kept coming towards me and I felt like my life was in danger," the victim told officers. "I didn't want her to stab me again."

Officers searched the kitchen and reportedly found a knife with a black handle on the counter. Police also found a broken glass smoking pipe with black residue in it on the ground, something that is a common way of ingesting crack cocaine. The victim said the pipe was not hers.

Finally, police asked the woman how long she'd been pregnant and if the suspect knew she was. The victim said she was about seven weeks pregnant and that she had told Abdou this two weeks prior.

Abdou was soon taken into custody and placed in a squad car. However, police noted that she smelled of alcohol, was sweating profusely and didn't understand her Miranda Warning. Officers said she was in an "altered state," "not fully there" and likely high on narcotics.

The suspect was taken to Hancock Regional Hospital for a medical check. She was later released, taken to Hancock County Jail and charged with felony battery with a deadly weapon, battery of a pregnant woman, criminal confinement and aggravated battery posing risk to a fetus.

Abdou was also charged with battery with a previous conviction. Court records show she was previously convicted of battery in 2003 in Marion County. Online records show she was also charged with misdemeanor battery in 2007 and intimidation in 2018.

In addition to these previous cases, Abdou currently has a pending case in Marion Superior Court where she was charged in Nov. 2023 with battering a public defender with bodily waste and operating a car while intoxicated.

An initial hearing in Abdou's most recent battery case was held earlier this week in Hancock County Court. A pretrial conference has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on May 29.
