CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. — An Ohio homicide suspect died during a standoff with Indiana State Police on Monday.
According to a press release, state police received a notification pertaining to the suspect around 9:30 a.m. The report noted that the suspect was implicated in a homicide in Springfield Township, Ohio, and known to drive a black Chevrolet Cruze.
Soon after they got the alert, troopers observed the suspect vehicle travelling northbound on Interstate 65 near mile marker 149. ISP attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the suspect, but she disregarded troopers and tried to flee the area.
A police chase ensued, and the suspect continued driving northbound on I-65 for another nine miles. At mile marker 158, the suspect took an exit off I-65 and onto State Road 28.
The suspect ultimately came to a stop near a gas station located off County Road 800 West.
Per ISP, after the suspect stopped, at least one shot came from the vehicle she was driving. State troopers also fired shots during the incident.
ISP later called one of its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) units to the scene. Troopers then used an armored SWAT car to approach the suspect vehicle.
According to ISP, troopers entered the Chevy Cruze and found the suspect dead inside it. State police did not clarify whether or not the suspect was struck by troopers' gunfire. As of this article's publication, ISP had not provided any information on the woman's suspected cause of death either.
The Clinton County Coroner's Office identified the decedent as 42-year-old Terea Brown of Cincinnati, Ohio. A press release from the Springfield Township Police Department in Ohio and reporting from FOX19 in Cincinnati confirm law enforcement wanted to speak with Brown about her alleged role in the shooting death of 33-year-old Lacresha Black.
STPD found Black lying outside the front door of her Ohio residence around 7:07 a.m. Monday. Black suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
STPD reported that it issued a regional broadcast to make other law enforcement agencies aware of Brown and the vehicle she was driving.
After the shooting in Clinton County, ISP searched the Chrevrolet Cruze Brown used during the chase and found a firearm.
In compliance with its own policies, ISP has placed the two troopers that fired their guns during the incident on administrative leave. Both troopers were equipped with bodycams and dashcams during the chase and shooting.
ISP is still investigating the chase and subsequent shooting. Once they're done examining the incident, police will turn their findings over to the Clinton County Prosecutor's Office for review.
No troopers or uninvolved citizens were injured during the chase and shooting. As of this article's publication, no additional information on the incident had been made available.
