Colts sign first-rounder Laiatu Latu, 4 other draft picks

INDIANAPOLIS – On the eve of their rookie minicamp, the Indianapolis Colts signed five of their nine draft picks.

Leading the way: Laiatu Latu, the No. 15 overall pick.

Also under contract in time for the three-day minicamp which begins Friday are linebacker Jaylon Carlies (round 5), cornerback Jaylin Simpson (round 5), cornerback Micah Abraham (round 6) and defensive tackle Jonah Laulu (round 7).

Under the league’s collective bargaining agreement with the players, draft picks essentially are slotted by when they are selected and guided by a rookie wage scale. Here’s the anticipated value of the four-year contracts for each, according to overthecap.com:

*Latu: $17.03 million guaranteed with a $9.2 million signing bonus. It includes a fifth-year option.

*Carlies: $4.356 million, $336,240 signing bonus.

*Simpson: $4.317 million, $297,016 signing bonus.

*Abraham: $4.193 million, $173,956 signing bonus.

*Laulu: $4.124 million, $104,520 signing bonus.

The remaining unsigned draft picks are wide receivers Adonai Mitchell (round 2) and Anthony Gould (round 5), offensive tackle Matt Goncalves (round 3) and guard/center Tanor Bortolini (round 4)

Undrafted rookies added

The Colts also signed seven undrafted rookies:

*quarterback/wideout Jason Bean, Kansas.

*running back Trent Pennix, N.C. State.

*kicker Spencer Shrader, Notre Dame.

*QB Kedon Slovis, BYU.

*G Dalton Tucker, Marshall.

*wideout Xavier White, Texas Tech.

*linebacker Craig Young, Kansas.
