INDIANAPOLIS -- A 16-year-old female has been charged with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of a man on Indy's far east side in March.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced on Wednesday that Savannah Allen has been preliminarily charged as an adult with murder for her alleged role in the shooting death of 25-year-old Addam Hart.
Fatal drive-by shooting
On March 28, officers were called around 1 a.m. to the 2200 block of Gable Drive after receiving reports that a person had been shot. IMPD said at the time that officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition where he later died.
Hart's death was quickly ruled a homicide after the Marion County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy.
According to previous reports, Hart had just moved into a new home on Gable Drive when a vehicle pulled up and fired more than 30 bullets into the home on the morning of March 28, fatally striking Hart as he went to check on the 5-year-old son of his fiance.
Hart's mother, Rebecca Roush, told detectives that she was inside her bedroom upstairs in the back of the home when she heard loud 'popping' sounds and observed dust falling from inside her room.
She said she called for Addam, he ran upstairs before being struck by a gunshot wound to the head just outside the bedroom door. Detectives recovered a black high-capacity pistol magazine for a Walther pistol with multiple live rounds.
Arrest and investigation
According to court documents, Allen allegedly drove a group of people to the home who fired multiple rounds after one of their friends told them a rapist resided at the residence.
Before driving to the residence for the drive-by shooting, Savannah received a call from another friend who claimed to also know the man and the group decided to look up his Instagram where they found a screenshot of the address on Gable Drive and decided to "shoot it up," according to court documents.
Savannah drove the group in a Volkswagen Jetta with three other unidentified individuals. As they approached the house, the group reportedly brought the vehicle to a stop so the car was "facing away from the house so they could go."
Savannah allegedly told detectives that she observed two individuals in the group open fire before telling her to turn around the car so they could drive by the home to take another look at it after firing multiple rounds.
At one point, Savannah told detectives that one of the individuals reportedly said, "I think I got
him. I saw a kid drop down in the window."
Court documents show that detectives recovered a Glock 26 and Walther pistol, which were reportedly used during the drive-by shooting.
When the group left the scene of the shooting, they reportedly received a notification about the incident on the Citizens app and Savannah detailed how one member of the group got "excited", court documents said.
Hart's mother claimed she had looked up information about the former owner and found that he reportedly had several rape charges pending, according to court documents.
A detective on the scene also found that the man had pending charges in Hamilton County for sexual misconduct with a minor and child exploitation and one rape charge out of Marion County.
Detectives had previously mentioned that the fatal drive-by shooting could have been related to issues with the previous owners who were no longer residing at the house. The house had sat empty since last June until Hart moved in this past February.
Detectives in Brownsburg determined the same suspects were involved in the shooting of a car in Hendricks County the night after Hart’s killing and that’s how investigators were led to Allen.
IMPD said its Violent Crimes Unit located Allen on May 2 and brought her into custody without further incident. She was preliminarily charged with murder on May 7 by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.
IMPD said the investigation into the killing and the search for other suspects continues.
IMPD urged anyone with information related to the fatal shooting on Gable Drive to contact Detective Greg Shue at 317-327-3475 or email Greg.Shue@indy.gov.
IMPD announces two teens arrested for murders
Wednesday marked the second time this week IMPD homicide detectives announced arrests of teenagers for murders.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday afternoon for the murder of Lance Little, 34, in the 7900 block of Harcourt Road in what police believe may have been a robbery attempt.
Today, the mother of that boy told FOX59/CBS4 that she and her son emerged from their townhouse at the nearby Reflections Apartment complex with their hands up at the command of IMPD SWAT officers within two hours of the killing.
While she denied her son had a gun, an IMPD source told FOX59/CBS4 that a firearm was recovered and the boy had blood on his leg at the time of his arrest.
The woman said her son struggled with mental health issues and that after the shooting, a group of people came to her unit and told her she was not safe because “Your son killed one of us.”
