Indianapolis once again failed to reach the freezing mark for an overnight low. However, several hometowns across Central Indiana had a chilly start. Anderson, Logansport, Kokomo and more had lows in the 20s. The Circle City is making a run at the latest first 32° temperature since 2016. The latest first freeze on record for Indianapolis is November 27, 1902; the average first freeze date is October 23.
For most, expect lows around 40°, while outlying spots will get into the 30s. Over the next week, I do not expect any low temperatures approaching the freezing mark! Temperatures will also be mild for most of this week, especially at the beginning. Sunday-Tuesday call for forecast highs in the 70s. On Election Day, the forecast high of 74° is only two degrees shy of the record 76° high.
This is the story all week long with sunsets also being earlier. We "Fall Back" Sunday at 2:00 a.m. with changed sunrise/sunset times. New sunset times will be around 5:40 p.m. starting Sunday.
We'll have increased rain chances but I do not anticipate any washouts or big time totals. Most of the needed rain will miss Central Indiana just to our north and west for Monday and Tuesday. The best chance for our region to see rain will be Tuesday Election Day. Umbrellas will be needed when you head to the polls. But dry hours will dominate!
