INDIANAPOLIS -- I-65 southbound is expected to reopen earlier than expected, according to officials with the Indiana Department of Transportation.
Starting Friday afternoon, the process to open I-65 southbound between West Street and Alabama Street will begin. All lanes and ramps are expected to open by 4 a.m. on Saturday.
By 3 p.m. on Friday, the West Street entrance ramp is expected to reopen, followed by southbound lanes of I-65. Officials said that lane closures are still scheduled, starting around 9 p.m. on Friday so the road can fully reopen southbound to through traffic.
According to INDOT, the initial plan was for the road to remain closed for 16 days starting on Oct. 15 for bridge deck patching and joint repairs. Friday marks 10 days since that project began.
"Crews will reopen the roadway more than five days ahead of schedule," INDOT said in the announcement.
