ANDERSON, Ind. -- A 17-year-old is recovering in a hospital after being wounded in a shooting in Anderson.

Police are still investigating exactly what led to the shooting, but after being shot the young victim drove across the street, jumped the curb and then slammed into the corner of a home on Madison Avenue.

The siding is damaged and the foundation appears cracked as a result of the crash Tuesday night.

The collision startled the homeowner who was lying in bed at the time.

"It was a big boom. It shook the whole house, even my windows. I mean it just scared me to death. I didn't know what was going on. I thought what happened?" said Wanda Orange.

Wanda recalls going outside to see what hit her house and saw a 17-year-old young man suffering from gunshot wounds behind the wheel of a car.

"He was sitting in the car slumped over the steering wheel," said Wanda. "I seen him move just a little bit and told him to hold on, I'm going to get help."

Wanda said three people quickly ran over and tried to help the victim in her front yard while she called 911.

"It just scared me to death to see the young person in the car. 'Oh my God' is all I could say. I didn't know what to do," said Wanda.

Police believe the teen was inside his car at a gas station across from Wanda's home when he was shot.

According to Anderson police, preliminary details indicate that the victim was inside his vehicle when a male suspect approached and shot him. The alleged shooter was last seen fleeing the area on foot after the incident. The K9 Division assisted with an area search and located a firearm that had been discarded.

The victim was flown to a hospital in Indianapolis where he was stabilized.

While crews examined the damage on Wanda's home on Wednesday, she just hoped the young victim would survive.

"I pray to the good Lord he makes it. That's all I can do is pray for him," said Wanda.

So far, no arrests have been made and police have not released any description of a suspect.

The Criminal Investigations Division arrived shortly after and began an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Detective Travis Thompson at (765) 648-6723. Anonymous tips can also be shared with Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS (8477).
