MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie woman is facing eight counts of child neglect after reportedly speeding down State Road 67 while eight children were 'unrestrained' in the car.
Laysha Leu Ann Luke, 26, was charged with the following:
- Operator Never Licensed
- Reckless Driving - Unreasonable Speed (high or low)
- Child Restraint, Child < Eight Years
- Child Restraint, Child 8-16 years old
According to court documents, an officer clocked a vehicle reportedly going 87 mph in a 55 mph on Oct. 5. The patrolman stopped the car. He found eight children in the vehicle allegedly unrestrained in any way. When he asked for Luke's driver's license, she informed police that she never had a one, and the officer cited her.
The officer also cited Luke for reckless driving due to high speed in what the officer classified as 'medium to heavy traffic.' He issued her eight citations for the children being unrestrained in the car. The vehicle was towed.
The officer advised Luke that he would forward the case for potential charges of child Neglect. Six of the eight children were under eight years old.
