WHITE COUNTY, Ind. -- A Florida man has been found guilty after he killed a Los Angeles man near the Brookston area in March 2022.
According to a news release from the Indiana State Police, 44-year-old Miguel Ibarguren, a Miami, Florida resident, was found guilty by a White County jury earlier this month of killing 63-year-old Aristide Garcia, a Los Angeles resident.
Ibarguren, Garcia's co-driving partner, was arrested in Arlington, Texas after Garcia's body was found on a stretch of I-65 near Brookston in March 2022. This comes after Garcia had been reported missing by his trucking company and Ibarguren was named a person of interest.
Officials said in the release that Ibarguren's conviction came after "an extensive multi-state investigation" that involved local, state and federal agencies gathering evidence and building a case that spanned several jurisdictions.
"The White County Prosecutor’s Office played a vital role in presenting a strong case that led to Ibarguren’s conviction," the release said. "Their thorough examination of the facts, effective coordination with law enforcement, and commitment to justice were instrumental in securing the guilty verdict."
According to court documents, Ibarguren's sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 6.
