INDIANAPOLIS — A 16-year-old was arrested for his alleged role in an Indianapolis carjacking over the weekend.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department posted on social media that officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of Central Avenue around 7 p.m. Sunday on report of an armed carjacking. When police arrived at the scene, they spoke with two victims.

The victims told officers they had been carjacked by two juvenile males with handguns. Per IMPD, the victims said the boys had approached them and asked for a ride. The victims obliged, agreeing to give the juveniles a ride.

The victims said that, soon after the boys got in the car with them, the suspects pulled out handguns, pointed them at the driver and demanded both individuals exit the car. The victims told IMPD that they got out of the car and handed the suspects a wallet and an iPhone.

The juvenile suspects fled the area in the vehicle they had stolen. IMPD reported that, within minutes, officers located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the suspects near 30th Street and Illinois Street.

The boys ignored officers' efforts, leading to a short pursuit that ended when the juveniles were involved in a crash near a gas station in the area of North Meridian Street and West 38th Street.

The crash only involved the stolen vehicle, and IMPD did not report any injuries related to the incident.

Police apprehended one of the juveniles at the scene of the crash. IMPD indicated that officers are still searching for the other juvenile suspect.

The detained juvenile was transported to a local hospital for a checkout and subsequently arrested for armed robbery, among other things.

A public police report on the incident indicates the boy faces 10 charges, including dangerous possession of a firearm by a minor, battery, pointing a loaded firearm, theft, resisting law enforcement and leaving the scene of a vehicle crash.

The juvenile also had two active warrants out of Marion County for armed robbery and dangerous possession of a firearm.

It is unclear whether or not the boy will be charged as an adult. IMPD has not released the juvenile's name.

Those with additional information on the carjacking are asked to contact Detective Jordan Agresta at the IMPD Robbery Office at (317) 327-3475 or Jordan.Agresta@indy.gov.
