RICHMOND, Ind. — Police in Richmond have arrested a 14-year-old after the FBI reported that the student was making threats against the high school on Snapchat.

The Richmond Police Department said they received a tip Thursday morning from the FBI regarding a threatening message posted on Snapchat. The FBI reportedly gave info and data related to the account and identified a 14-year-old in Richmond as the suspect.

RPD said that crews soon located the juvenile at their Richmond residence and detectives were called to the scene. During an interview, police said the juvenile confirmed that the accounts belonged to them.

Police said that after the interview, the Wayne County Probation Department was contacted and the juvenile was taken into custody. The 14-year-old is currently being lodged at a detention center, RPD said.

"I am incredibly proud of the rapid response and thorough investigation conducted by our Investigative and Patrol Divisions, as well as the cooperation we received from our federal and local partners," said Chief Kyle Weatherly. "We are committed to ensuring that our children remain safe and that our schools continue to be environments where young people are free to learn, grow, and thrive without fear."

RPD said that no weapons were recovered during the juvenile's arrest.

"There is no additional threat at this time," the department said.

No other information was immediately provided. The 14-year-old is not being identified because they are a minor.

This is at least the sixth time since the start of the 24-25 school year that a central Indiana student has been arrested for making or posing threats to their classmates.

Earlier this week, Marion police arrested two juveniles accused of making online threats at two schools within Marion Community Schools. On Tuesday, police arrested a student for allegedly making online threats at an unspecified school within the Warren Township Metropolitan School District.

Last week, Anderson police arrested a student who allegedly threatened to bring a gun to class. Indiana State Police also arrested a Perry Meridian student last week for making alleged threats.
