INDIANAPOLIS — Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on the east side of Indianapolis Saturday morning.
According to IMPD, officers were called to the 100 block of North Linwood Avenue around 9:21 a.m. on the report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim outside of a home with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. Police said he was pronounced dead on-scene.
Following further investigation, police located another individual with apparent gunshot wounds in a vehicle. The second victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.
Police found the second near the same house they located the first victim at. Law enforcement believes both the deceased individuals they found Sunday morning were adults.
"It's extremely disturbing," IMPD Officer Tommy Thompson said of the shooting during a media briefing. "Not only to have one person shot, but to find two. Now, you have two families that are suffering with another loss. It's horrible, at the hands of gun violence, unnecessary gun violence. It's just disturbing, and I can't imagine what those families are going through."
Police are asking those with information on the shooting to contact the IMPD Homicide Office at (317) 327-3475. Alternatively, tipsters can contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477.
IMPD reported that its detectives believe the shooting was an isolated incident that does not pose an ongoing threat to the community.
Police have not released any suspect information. Law enforcement also has not indicated what the motive for the shooting might have been.
