INDIANAPOLIS – Two people were forced to leave their home after a fire broke out early Wednesday morning on the near east side.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched around 3:50 a.m. to a home on South Lasalle Street.
They discovered a fire at the rear of the residence. Two people escaped, IFD said, but a dog died in the fire. A pet ferret was rescued.
IFD said there were no injuries to residents or firefighters.
Damage was estimated at $50,000. The cause remains under investigation.
