GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A large residential fire in Greenwood is now under investigation, with authorities believing that it was likely caused by lightning.
The Greenwood Fire Department was called around 4:56 p.m. to a home located in the 500 block of Alton Drive Thursday alongside firefighters with the White River Township Fire Department in response to a confirmed residence fire. GFD said a partial collapse was also reported at the residence.
While fire crews were on scene, GFD said they observed a partial collapse of the garage roof. The fire was brought under complete control by 5:51 p.m.
GFD confirmed that no occupants or firefighters were injured during the incident.
While the exact cause remains under investigation, GFD said it believes lightning was likely the cause. GFD said the affected family has been speaking with victims’ assistance, including the American Red Cross, to assist them with the next steps after Thursday’s fire.
