INDIANAPOLIS — In a press release from the Marion County Sheriff's Office, officers confirmed a 41-year-old male died at the Adult Detention Center (ADC) on Wednesday.

According to the MCSO, Carlos Lagunes-Fraceschy was found unresponsive in the ADC infirmary around 10:15 a.m. Medical staff provided aid on him until emergency medical personnel arrived, which then provided lifesaving efforts until 10:40 a.m. That was when Lagunes-Fraceschy was pronounced dead, MCSO wrote.

Per the press release, Lagunes-Fraceschy moved to a single-bed infirmary observation cell just the night before, due to him experiencing stomach pain. Wednesday morning, medical staff checked on him around 9 a.m., and he was responsive. However, the MCSO said once he was checked again at 10:15 a.m., he was found unresponsive.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating this case, which they said "...is standard procedure to ensure transparency and accountability". They will be working alongside the Forensic Services Agency, the Marion County Coroner's Office, and the MCSO's Internal Affairs Unit.

The press release also reported that Lagunes-Fraceschy has been in Marion County custody three separate times since 2018. His case prior to his death included charges on:

  • Possession of methamphetamine (Level 6 felony)
  • False identity statement (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Possession of marijuana (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Possession of paraphernalia (Class C misdemeanor)
