INDIANAPOLIS -- A 21-year-old man pleaded guilty to possessing a machine gun after a Glock switch was found at his Indianapolis apartment in December 2023.
According to a news release from the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Indiana, Jaquan Robinson was sentenced to a little more than three years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, after the guilty plea.
On Dec. 28, 2023, Marion County Probation officers conducted a compliance visit at Robinson's apartment. During the visit, officers reportedly found a backpack containing the frame of a Glock handgun. After a search warrant was issued, a Glock switch was found in a safe, along with some identification documents.
Robinson admitted to officers that he possessed the machine gun conversion device. Officials reviewed Robinson's social media messages which showed that he was "seeking to purchase additional handgun parts in order to have a fully-functional machine gun."
The release said that Robinson had previously been convicted for bringing a firearm into a school as well as having two or more firearms in another incident. There were also firearms charges against Robinson pending in the state of Michigan.
“Illegally armed criminals are a grave danger to our families and neighbors—especially when they have machineguns capable of spreading carnage in mere seconds,” Zachary A. Myers, the U.S. attorney for the southern district of Indiana, said in the release. “Having or using a ‘Glock switch’ is a serious crime. The federal prison sentence imposed here should send the message that these weapons will not be accepted in our community. Our federal prosecutors, in partnership with the ATF and the city of Indianapolis, are committed to bringing these important federal prosecutions and making Marion County a safer place.”
