INDIANAPOLIS -- The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Indiana has indicted 15 individuals reportedly involved with a conspiracy to straw purchase dozens of firearms in Central Indiana.
According to a news release, the following people have been indicted and charged with conspiring to make false statements during the purchase of a firearm, as well as one or more counts of making a false statements during the purchase of a firearm:
- Daylen Bell, 24, of Indianapolis
- Jaylyn Lamont Crenshaw, 25, of Indianapolis
- Michaela Evan Day, 27, of Indianapolis
- Michael Glen Day, 23, of Indianapolis
- Davone Trae Eans, 24, of Indianapolis
- Kendall Rayshaun Ezell, 21, of Indianapolis
- Anthony Keith Jones, 24, of Indianapolis
- Isiah Thomas Keller, 21, of Greenfield
- Anthony James Morst, 24, of Indianapolis
- Caleb Morris Redman, 23, of Indianapolis
- Jordan Devon Ross, 24, of Gary
- Derrion Wisdom Scruggs, 23
- Michael Coreal Stubbs, 22, of Indianapolis
- Demetrius Andre Young, 24, of Indianapolis
- Jalen Charles Zimmerman, 23, of Indianapolis.
The office alleges that Keller, Stubbs, Ezell, Michael Day and Jones conspired to pay straw purchasers to buy guns illegally from at least six federally licensed firearms dealers in Central Indiana. The release said that straw purchasing occurs when a person who is allowed to legally purchase a gun falsely states they are buying it for themselves, when it is for someone else.
The five individuals reportedly paid the 10 others who were also indicted to make straw purchases, transporting the illegally purchased guns to resell them elsewhere. If convicted each of the 15 individuals faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
