Person killed in early morning hit-and-run on northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS – A person died in a hit-and-run crash on the northeast side of Indianapolis early Thursday.

According to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department incident report, officers were called around 1:40 a.m. to the 2500 block of East 38th Street.

Officers found a man lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. On Thursday morning, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the person who died as 42-year-old Dewayne Lamar Hill.

IMPD characterized the incident as a deadly hit-and-run, although the report didn’t include a description of a suspected vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.
