Excessive heat returns to Central Indiana next week

While humidity levels have gone up into the weekend, this is just the appetizer for what's to come early next week. Temperatures have also increased with Indianapolis hitting 90º for a high temperature on Saturday. This marks the beginning of a heat wave and the hottest air in 2.5 weeks around here.

Tonight, expect lows in the 60s with dew points also in the 60s. It's possible some fog could develop but it would be very patchy if that occurs. Then, expect a carbon copy of Saturday's weather on Sunday—highs again around 90º with partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. There will be a strong atmospheric lid or cap in place so storms are not expected Sunday.

Upper-level ridging brings hot dome back

A big-time upper-level ridge is currently located over the Great Plains. It's anticipated to move east right over Central Indiana. With the ridging continuing to build this weekend and early next week, the peak of the heat looks to be Monday to Wednesday. Highs will be well into the 90s and heat indices will exceed 100º. Dew points will surge well into the 70s, a big change after the comfy pattern plenty of August 2024 has brought us.

One thing that will be lacking in this period is the rain. But by the late Wednesday-Thursday timeframe, that's the period we're watching for a cold front passage. It's starting Thursday and into next weekend where relatively low rain chances exist but not anything big.
