INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis woman has been charged in Marion County court after she reportedly sold drugs that caused the death of an Indianapolis man.
According to court documents filed last month in Marion County, 26-year-old Baleigh Hicks was charged with one count of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, a Level 1 felony.
On June 1, officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, as well as the Marion County Coroner's Office, were dispatched to a home on the southwest side of Indianapolis in regards to a death investigation.
A man, identified by his roommates as Blake Clayton, was found dead in a bedroom that morning. The court documents said that there was evidence of various substances and paraphernalia by the bed, including Ziploc bags filled with drugs, a scale, and a rolled-up $100 bill.
At the scene, investigators also located a cell phone that belonged to Clayton. During the investigation, officials uncovered multiple conversations that Clayton had with a number that was eventually linked to Hicks.
During those conversations, many of which occurred in May, Clayton was reportedly purchasing drugs from Hicks, telling Hicks multiple times that he was looking for "some slow," a slang term for heroin and/or fentanyl.
The court documents also uncovered social media messages between the two, setting up a transaction between Hicks and Clayton in mid-May.
On July 22, law enforcement detained Hicks at a home on the near south side of Indianapolis. During an interview with police, Hicks reportedly admitted to dealing fentanyl to Clayton.
Officials with the Marion County court set a $50,000 surety bond for Hicks. An initial hearing in this case is scheduled for Thursday morning.
