INDIANAPOLIS -- Officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrested two individuals who were reportedly linked to an attempted carjacking of an IMPD detective.
According to a post on IMPD's social media, 22-year-old Ernest Poston was arrested on preliminary charges of attempted robbery, theft and intimidation. Officials also arrested 24-year-old Jenariss Davis on preliminary charges of attempted robbery, unlawful carry of a handgun and intimidation.
On Wednesday, detectives were conducting an investigation in the area of 52nd Street and High School Road. The post read that during the investigation, a detective, who was parked in an unmarked vehicle, was approached by a red sedan.
Three armed individuals, two of which were later identified as Poston and Davis, came out of the sedan wearing masks and gloves. They reportedly attempting to carjack the detective, who was able to drive away without sustaining any injuries.
Court documents said that as the three individuals approached the car with reported firearms, the detective "immediately drove from the area at a high rate of speed" and notified other detectives of the "almost" carjacking.
After the attempt, detectives reportedly followed the sedan. The three individuals eventually abandoned the vehicle and ran eastbound. The post read that the detectives saw the three people throw guns into a trash can near a home and run into a wooded area.
Davis was eventually located walking near 5100 Moller Road and Poston was found hiding in the wooded area. Two guns were reportedly recovered from the trash can and the masks and gloves were reportedly recovered for the red sedan.
The post read that the investigation is ongoing as detectives continue to look for the third individual who was reportedly involved in the attempted robbery. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make the final charging decisions.
