Update (Aug. 15)

The WNBA officially announced on Thursday that the AT&T WNBA All-Star 2025 festivities will take place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

According to a news release, the 21st WNBA All-Star Game will be played on July 19, 2025 and will be the first time that Indianapolis will host the festivities. On July 18, 2025, players will also participate in the WNBA STARRY® 3-Point Contest and Kia WNBA Skills Challenge.

“We are excited to bring AT&T WNBA All-Star to Indiana for the first time,” WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in the release. “The city of Indianapolis and the entire state of Indiana have such an incredible and enduring passion for the game of basketball, making the region the perfect host to celebrate the WNBA and the game’s greatest stars.”

In a statement from Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, he said that Indianapolis is "on a roll" as the host city for major events.

I am thrilled that the WNBA will bring the All-Star Game to Indianapolis in 2025. Our city looks forward to welcoming the WNBA and its fans in the same way we welcomed the NBA and its fans in February for the All-Star Weekend. Of course, minus the snow! The city looks forward to partnering with the WNBA, Pacers Sports & Entertainment, and the Simon Family over the coming months to make sure this game and the events surrounding it are memorable for all.

Right now, the entire country is feeling the excitement and energy of the WNBA. I’d argue no where is feeling it more than Indianapolis. Our Indiana Fever leads the league in attendance for both away and home games. The Caitlin Clark effect is here and our city is truly at the center of the women’s basketball world. I have said it once, and I will say it again, no one knows how to host the biggest events in sports like Indianapolis – the WNBA All-Star Game will be no exception.

INDIANAPOLIS — According to sources for ESPN, the Circle City will host the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game.

This event will mark the first time Indianapolis has hosted the WNBA All-Star Game, and will be highlighted by the recent rise in the Indiana Fever's popularity. Part of this is due to Iowa's Caitlin Clark on the roster, who is the NCAA's all-time leading scorer.

Per ESPN, Indiana is also number one in the league for most nationally-televised games: 38 in total, 10 of which have set WNBA viewership records across multiple networks.

Previous WNBA All-Star Games took place in the following cities:

  • Phoenix in 2024
  • Las Vegas in 2023, 2021 and 2019
  • Chicago in 2022

Speaking on this past Fever season, Danny Lopez, the Senior VP for Pacers Sports & Entertainment, noted the increased fan engagement within Indianapolis. "It's just been a incredible year so far lot of excitement, and really I would say its been a long time coming," he said. "We’ve had several seasons where we’ve been building this roster. We've got a lot of young talent on this team… that are playing exceptionally well and fans are excited to see it."

Later, Lopez also reflected on 2024 being a turning point for women's professional athletics, with an increase in support for the Indiana Fever in both new and returning fans. "I mean, I think were going to be able to look back generations from now and say there was a pre-2024 [level of excitement] and a post-2024 [level of excitement]," he said. "And right in the middle of that was Indiana, and it's a really cool feeling."
