DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. -- An investigation is underway after an elderly man died of a possible drowning in northeastern Delaware County Tuesday afternoon.
The Delaware County Coroner's Office confirmed to FOX59/CBS4 that emergency personnel found the body of an 88-year-old man who was partially submerged in a pond while responding to an emergency call. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The investigation began when authorities were called around 4:25 p.m. to the 13300 block of West Delaware County Road 1200-North in response to a possible drowning.
At this time, it remains unclear what circumstances preceded the man's death. The coroner said emergency personnel believe he was potentially dumping cement blocks into the pond before the incident occurred.
As of this article's publication, authorities are unsure if the deceased individual suffered a sudden illness or sustained an injury before entering the water.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Office said foul play is not suspected to have played a role in the incident.
