RICHMOND, Ind. — A man was arrested earlier this month for taking slot machines from a home in Richmond.

Robert Bragg, 47, was charged with the following:

  • Burglary, a Level 4 Felony
  • Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor

Officers were dispatched on Sunday, Aug. 4, at approximately 6:33 a.m., to the 4800 block of N US Highway 37 in Richmond on a report of a residential burglary alarm. Before the patrolman arrived, he spoke to the homeowner, who said no person should be in the house.

Upon arrival to the house, two deputies walked around the residence and eventually found a door with an unlocked handle. They drew their weapons and saw Bragg running out of the home with a slot machine. The officer told him to 'stop,' but he reportedly dropped the slot machine and began running.

According to court documents, the man ran through the backyard and continued through a bean field. The officer threatened to use a taser on him if he did not stop, and the man finally stopped. While in the patrol car, officers learned that Bragg had the homeowner's debit card in his pocket.

Further into the investigation the home, authorities found a crowbar and two additional slot machines near the home doorway. Deputies also noticed marks consistent with a crowbar on the door frame.

Law enforcement spoke with Bragg about the stolen slot machines and he said that he, "couldn't resist."

A sergeant requested that officers look at Bragg's shoes and they noticed that the soles of his shoes matched the footprints tracked through the basement.

When officers later told him that he had an active warrant out he allegedly said, "I am guilty of this one, but I do not know about the other one is from."

Information will be updated as it becomes available.
