INDIANAPOLIS – Police arrested a burglary suspect following a chase and crash on the southeast side early Tuesday morning.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, a Southeast District officer was patrolling near the 4000 block of Mi Casa Avenue around 3 a.m. Tuesday when he saw a pickup truck in the driveway of a vacant rental property. The garage door was also open.

Suspecting a potential burglary, the officer turned around in a nearby driveway and saw the truck back out and turn onto Gray Road without stopping at the stop sign. The truck then sped off; the officer turned on his emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

The driver of the truck, however, didn’t stop, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, the truck spun out, came to a stop and ended up facing pursuing officers. The driver then rammed a police car, disabling it, as other officers continued the pursuit.

An officer used a precision immobilization technique (PIT) to bring an end to the pursuit near East Stop 11 and Shelbyville roads. Images from the scene showed the suspect’s vehicle sustained considerable damage.

Officers arrested the driver, identified as 52-year-old Robert Ross, who was initially taken to an area hospital after complaining of pain. Preliminary charges against him include burglary, resisting law enforcement and possession of marijuana.

IMPD said an officer was checked at the scene and escaped injury.
