CARMEL, Ind. -- Indiana State Police officials are investigating a shooting involving a Carmel police officer.
According to an ISP press release, at 7:48 p.m. on Sunday, Carmel police dispatch received a 911 call reporting a harassment and stalking incident in the 12800 block of Old Meridian Street.
At 7:55 p.m., a Carmel officer began searching for a man who was allegedly harassing the caller with a description that he was known to drive a blue sports car.
At approximately 8:16 p.m., the officer located a blue Dodge Charger on the third floor of the apartment parking garage. The car was occupied by an adult male and the officer parked his vehicle in front of the Dodge.
The officer exited his vehicle and ordered the man to get out. The man inside the vehicle was not compliant with the officer's commands. Another officer arrived and the suspect still refused to leave the vehicle.
Moments later, the suspect drove forward and hit a Carmel police SUV. One officer fired his handgun through the windshield of the Charger. The suspect continued to spin his wheels while driving into the SUV.
Officers were able to break a window to gain access to the suspect. They pulled him out of the vehicle and handcuffed him.
Once the suspect was out of the vehicle, officers discovered he had injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. The officers began rendering aid until emergency medical services arrived.
The suspect was taken to the hospital in stable condition and the injuries are reported to be non-life threatening.
One officer received a cut to the hand while rendering aid and required treatment at a hospital.
The involved officer has been placed on critical incident leave pending an internal review, as is standard protocol of the Carmel Police Department.
