INDIANAPOLIS — A 4-day-old baby was hospitalized after an apartment fire broke out on the west side of Indianapolis on Saturday.

Public emergency reporting systems indicate Wayne Township Fire Department crews were first dispatched to the 3500 block of St. Thomas Boulevard on a report of an apartment fire around 2:40 p.m. Crews ultimately determined the flames were emanating from Spinnaker Court Apartments.

A WTFD spokesperson indicated first responders found a 4-day-old child with guardians outside the apartment complex when they arrived at the scene. The baby was transported from the scene to a local hospital out of precaution.

Per WTFD, the child is not believed to have suffered any life-threatening injuries. Because the baby was exposed to the blaze, however, officials determined a medical checkout at a hospital was necessary.

Four units in the apartment complex were affected by the fire, according to WTFD. The complex's management team is working to relocate the individuals that were displaced by the blaze.

Crews are still investigating the cause of the fire. As of this article's publication, no additional information on the incident had been made available.
